Cid asked:
I love to listen to audiobooks but the selection at my local library is getting slim (I have listened to so many already). And they are way to expensive to purchase. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place online where you can buy or rent or download audiobooks for a reasonable fee?
Thanks!

You should try getting them from a used bookstore. The prices are heavily discounted, and when you’re done with it, you bring it back, they credit your account, and you get another one without paying very much.

Other than the Library? Try iTunes or for “a library of 17000 free ebooks whose copyright has expired in the USA Book listings,”
If travelling, Cracker Barrel usually has some good ones – you buy one, then trade it in on the next one, and so on….

audible.com has a large selection at fairly reasonable prices.
Project Gutenberg has free human-read (and computer-read) books. Librivox is podcasting works from Project Gutenberg as well. Telltale Weekly has both free and non-free (but cheap) audiobooks.

Audible.com is the best source for downloading audiobooks – it has a pretty big collection and is constantly updated with new books (as far as I know they are actually a monopoly – I didn’t find any other service that has downloadable copyrighted books). The downside is the price – the books are pretty expensive in my opinion – the prices are comparable to their CD counterparts, but if you listen to a lot of audiobooks you can take advantage of one of their AudibleListener plans

If you are traveling by car – the Cracker Barrel restaurants have them for sale. The deal is you buy it at one place and return it when you are done (down the road) and you get a rebate.
